ABOUT HALAL
The UAE has developed an advanced and globally competitive halal industry, setting best practices worldwide. This success is attributed to the foundation of the UAE's halal sector, which has been strongly supported by accreditation bodies, halal certification bodies (HCBs), and establishments involved in halal product manufacturing. In recent years, the UAE has focused on enhancing the national halal industry's infrastructure to meet development and sustainability requirements while aligning with international best practices and procedures.
According to UAE Cabinet Decree No. 10 of 2014 on the "UAE System for Control of Halal Products," establishments must obtain a Halal Certificate for their final products and raw materials from Halal Certification Bodies registered by the ministry. The National Accreditation Department (NAD) in the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) is responsible to register Halal Certification Bodies after ensuring that HCBs are complying with the approved halal standards and requirements specified in Cabinet Decree 10/2014.
The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology has introduced the Halal National Mark, awarded after verifying that products meet the approved standards. Establishments must adhere to the UAE’s requirements for halal products and the conditions for using the Halal National Mark. This mark can be granted to a product, service, or production system and is issued by the Department of Conformity within the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology. It serves as a model for ensuring that the entire supply chain of halal products meets the highest standards and regulations of Islamic Sharia, as well as international quality and product conformity best practices.
The Halal National Mark also facilitates the smooth movement of halal food products from abroad to the UAE’s markets and from the UAE to global markets. While obtaining the Halal National Mark is optional, local and global products, services, or production systems that wish to highlight their compliance with Islamic Sharia provisions must obtain this certification.
